I just watched Youth in Revolt after special recommendation from one of my friends, and after watching it I realized that I have totally different taste towards this type of movies about geeks or losers that keep struggling for their virginity (and of course he gets it by the end of the movie).
I don’t think that Michael Cera is the appropriate choise for having him as the main character, and the story is during his trailer trash parents on the edge of divorce, Nick Twisp sets his sights on dream girl Sheeni Saunders, hoping that she’ll be the one to take away his virginity
The new love of his life is kinda complicated where she showed him that she needs a bad guy as her dream prince charming, so he creates alter ego character “the only difference is that he had a mustache and he was smoking all the time”.
The story wasn’t bad at all, even the rest of the cast were interesting to watch them together in one movie such as Ray Liotta and Steve Buscemi, yet sadly they don’t appear except in a few scenes, and the sadist part is watching not only one Michael Cera, but two of him plus a mustache (that was one of the worst acts I ever seen)
There were few scenes that I liked in the movie (for example the claymation scene when they travelled by car) and also the one with suicidal car attempt, overall the movie would be better if they just picked the right people to do it, but still you might enjoy it like my friend, you might similar taste of movies.
I would give it 5 out of 10
